Court Rules on Administration Building
The Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica are pleased that the Court has ruled that the City’s refusal to grant a demolition permit to the Sisters violates the rights of the Sisters under the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment.
We have never been interested in receiving damages from the City. We have had a long and good relationship with the City and its citizens and the Sisters do not want the City or its citizens penalized by any award of damages. All we have ever wanted was to be able to demolish the Administration Building which we have not been able to use for a number of years. We are very pleased with the ruling by the Court and we trust the demolition permit will be issued promptly and that we can place this behind us and continue to do our charitable work in the community.
